Tyrannobdella rex
A species of leech that is found in south America (amazon). It infects mammalian species and feeds on the mucus membranes of their upper respiratory tract, is also known to infect humans. It is bigger than most leeches (hence rex species classification). Like many annelida It has ganglia at the pharynx and ganglia in each segments with branching off nerve cords and 2 nerve cords that run the length of its body. This more advanced nervous system allows for photo receptors, chemo receptors and more. |
